Laving done all in his power to obtain conformation of
the Statement which had been submitted to him, the
officer reported the case on
the 12th of Octr to H. M. Consul at Canton, who on the
18th addressed a representation to H. E.
the Viceroy of the Two Kwang & suggested the Propriety of orders being sent by
telegraph for an investigation for the purpose of discovering
and punishing the persons, who had been guilty of surreptitiously planning
while within British waters the
abduction there from of
the aforesaid Wo-a-Lung and thereby effecting
the act itself to the prevention of return to British territory.
In consequence of
H.M. Consul, not having received any reply
from the Viceroy, he called upon H.E., and learnt from him
that according to the Chinese Version
of the affair the
officers who had seized Wo-a-Lung
happened to be fellow passengers.
